What Fortunautica is for

Play the anomaly. Test the claim.

Fortunautica is built to falsify claims, not to prove psi. Even a spectacular result does not establish psi as an explanation — it establishes that a precisely specified null failed under a preregistered protocol. Then we replicate, tighten the controls, and try to kill the effect again.

Two layers, never conflated

ARENA — entertainment. Rivalries, rankings, streaks, teams, upsets, spectators, stakes. A rating is a competitive record, never evidence.

LAB — falsification. Here is the claim, the null, the preregistered test, the stopping rules, the evidence. Did the claim survive the attempt to falsify it?

Arena numbers generate hypotheses. They never confirm one.

Why the Arena works even if the null is true

If everyone is exactly at chance, finite samples still produce streaks, upsets and season champions. That is ordinary sampling variance — and it is enough for drama. We exploit the null instead of being embarrassed by it: standings carry the disclaimer, the screener watches for a predefined threshold, and a candidate must then reproduce in the Lab on fresh data.

We do not call someone psychic because of a streak, pretend a near miss is meaningful, or sell better chances. We show what happened and preserve the data needed to check it.

Fortunautica creates claims worth testing. Then it tries to destroy them.

TWO LAYERS, NEVER STATISTICALLY CONFLATED
  ARENA — entertainment.
Rivalries, rankings, streaks, teams, upsets, rivalries, Skilldoor stakes,
spectators, trash talk. Competition is allowed to get loud. A rating is a
competitive record; it is never evidence of anomalous ability.

  LAB — falsification.
Here is the exact claim. Here is the null. Here is the preregistered test.
Here are the stopping rules. Here is the cryptographic evidence. Did the
claim survive the attempt to falsify it?

Arena numbers can generate a hypothesis. They can never confirm one. A result
that looks extraordinary in the Arena is an invitation to test it in the Lab
on fresh, preregistered data — not a conclusion.

WHY THE ARENA STILL WORKS IF THE NULL IS TRUE
If everyone is exactly at chance, finite samples still produce streaks, upsets,
rivalries, comebacks and season champions. That is ordinary sampling variance,
and it is enough for drama. Sports do not require metaphysically stable
superiority to be worth watching; they require uncertain outcomes, identity,
stakes, history and repeated encounters. Fortunautica has all of those.

We exploit the null rather than being embarrassed by it:
    - Arena standings carry the disclaimer: competition statistics, not evidence.
    - The screener watches for performances that cross a predefined threshold —
not to crown a psychic, but to spend resources trying to destroy the effect.
    - A candidate must then reproduce prospectively under a fresh protocol.

WHAT WE GAMIFY
- Your record: verified trials, sessions, milestones, personal bests, division.
- Competition: rating, rank within brackets, rivalries, head-to-head history.
- Participation: streaks you control (days you showed up), not luck.
- Ceremony: committing a prediction, sealing it, revealing the target, publishing
the evidence root, passing verification. Real events, made dramatic.

WHAT WE REFUSE
- Telling you a random streak changed your odds.
- "You are almost psychic" or "your powers are awakening" framing.
- Near-miss language for statistical thresholds. We give exact distances and
say plainly when they are not statistical proximity.
- Celebrating a loss as a win. Celebration maps only to things that happened.
- Progress bars toward a scientific conclusion. Progress is toward goals you
  choose and can actually reach.
- Fake countdowns, invented scarcity, or buried cancellation flows.
- Selling chances. Payment never affects eligibility, difficulty, or odds.
- Letting a lucky Arena run masquerade as a Lab result. The two never mix.

HOW TO READ A RESULT
Three separate objects, always shown separately:
  1. performance how you did (hits out of trials)
  2. session statistic what this single session means under the stated chance
model (usually: very little on its own)
  3. criterion whether a preregistered threshold was met (almost always:
                        not reached)

DENOMINATORS
Every percentage we show carries its denominator and method. A bare "Top 0.1%"
is not a Fortunautica sentence.

WHY
You should be able to care deeply about your record without ever having to
misunderstand what it means. Everyone gets a legend. Only the data gets the
last word.
